Leadership and direction in our organization” – Keynote Address –

Message from our Region 4 International Director, Larry Marik, DTM

Region 4 – International Director, Larry Marik, DTM.

Larry Marik started his Toastmasters journey 13 years ago.  He joined Toastmasters as a charter member for Money Talks, a corporate club with U.S. Bank. Since then he has served in multiple clubs, leading up to serving as District Director where District 06 became Distinguished.  Currently, he is on the Toastmasters’ Board of Directors as an International Director from Region 4.
In his career, Larry is a Scrum Master and technical lead for U.S. Bank where he leads an agile team in Quality Assurance.  In the past 21 years at the bank, he has served in multiple roles including software development, system performance, and risk management.
Outside of work and Toastmasters, he spends time with his 14-year-old daughter, Hannah; going to the movies and traveling.
He looks forward to seeing all of you and catching up during his visit.

During his speech, Larry will be going over the following:

  • leadership and what it means to me going from Club Member to International Director
  • open discussion on leadership in club/areas/divisions/districts
  • open discussion question and answer forum (what is on members mind?)

Do you have any questions related to leadership, COVID-19 or anything else related to Toastmasters that you would like Larry to answer for you during this session? Please feel free to submit them by clicking on the link below.

Jamie Ogborn is District 6 Admin Mgr for Toastmasters year 2019-2020. She works for Ameriprise Financial helping Financial Advisors provide more financial planning to their clients to help them reach their financial goals. Jamie joined Toastmasters to get better at public speaking skills as well as other leadership skills that would help her in her career. She has had to figure out online learning in college due to a health issue and knows how challenging it can be to figure out the online learning programs and live life virtually. During this session she is going to walk through how you can use the new Pathways Learning Platform.
Session 2*
– 4 PM
Going virtual is pretty cool!

Vince and Monte will share their experiences on running virtual meetings and virtual speechcraft sessions during this session. This is a perfect time for us to hear what their clubs have done to figure out ways to keep connecting with their club members and speechcraft participants. Join in to the conversation to learn from their experiences and share your own too if you would like to.

Vince and Monte have both been in Toastmasters for quite sometime. They have been actively involved in District level officer roles and are great resources to learn from.

Vince checked out a newly forming group that was being created to help IT people with their soft skills on a suggestion from his boss back in late 2008. A couple months later, he was a charter member of the TechMasters club. He has since been an area director, division director, Speechcraft chair and club extension chair.

In 1992, Sergeant Major Monte Jefson was assigned a role a position which required him to brief senior Generals and Command Sergeants Major… Border Toasters helped him succeed. As the District 6 Corporate Liaison for two years he promoted videoconferencing as a methodology for a single club serving multiple campuses. He is now a member of Tag Talk Toastmasters at Best Buy, which aims to “…enrich people’s lives through technology…”.
