Summary
The District 6 Fall Conference at the Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester on October 24th & 25th was indeed one of the most exciting and fun District events this year! Friday night speech contest had ten fabulous Tall Tales. Freaky Friday included a costume contest, ghost stories, and wrap up with music from Swing Street band. Truly an awesome Friday! Saturday offered several inspiring and informing educational sessions. We roasted Immediate Past District Governor Pat Croal, conducted business, and we finished with ten of the funniest and most entertaining Humorous Speeches you’ve ever heard. The food was excellent and the company of fellow Toastmasters was first rate!

Speech Contest Purpose
- To provide an opportunity for speakers to improve their speaking abilities and to recognize the best as encouragement to all.
- To provide an opportunity to learn by observing the more proficient speakers who have benefited from their Toastmasters training.
Fall Speech Contest
There are two Separate contests and an individual may compete in both.
HUMOROUS SPEECH (5 to 7 minutes) – To recognize the value of humor in speaking.
TALL TALES CONTEST (3 to 5 minutes) – To provide participants with the opportunity to create an original, highly improbable, humorous tale.
Each Toastmaster club held their own contest or selection process to choose a representative from the club. Winners advance through the organizational structure of clubs in four steps of a tournament (Club – Area – Division – District 6). The Division contest winners are listed above and will compete in the finals at the District 6 Fall Conference.

NEW TWIST FOR SILENT AUCTION
The Silent Auction took on a new twist at the Fall Conference in 2008. We will had fewer items and we “bid” by purchasing raffle tickets. The raffle tickets were $1.00 each and could be used to bid on several different items. Here’s how it worked: Donate $15.00 and you will receive 15 raffle tickets. You may “bid” one raffle ticket on 15 different items or you may “bid” 15 raffle tickets on one item. If you are feeling really lucky, you may buy just one raffle ticket and place it on one item. There is no limit to the amount of raffle tickets that you can buy; however, if you don’t buy any raffle tickets, then you can’t win anything!
You do not need to be a Toastmaster to enter the raffle and you do not need to be present to win. The raffle tickets will be sold at each Division Contest and at the Fall Conference. The drawing was held on Saturday, October 25 at 4:30 PM in the Heritage Hall Foyer at the Kahler Hotel in Rochester, MN.
