Our website d6tm.org has served as a great resource for all of our guests and members. We have had a lot of information added to it for a number of years by a number of different volunteers. This all comes with pros and cons like anything else we are involved in. While we are appreciative of what we have on our website, the way it looks and feels; we are unable to upgrade the backend system we are using. To do so, we have set up a stage environment on which we have upgraded the backend system to support our website. While doing so we will be changing the look and feel of our website.
It is understandable if this change is difficult to accept change right away as we are used to with what we have. However, looking at the pros, following is what we intend to get done with the new website.
- Upgraded backend system
- Optimal utilization of the space on our web pages
- Device responsive website
- Opportunity to review posted information
- Organization of the categories
How can things come with no challenges, right? With that said, we do agree there are and undoubtably will be more of those coming, and we will try our best to work through them. Let’s remember our organization is for providing a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. Following are some of the things we are aiming for during the transition from our current website to a new one.
- d6tm.org, link will remain as is
- office hours will be set
- phased approach will be applied
- archived information for reference
- suggestion box
- adapt as we go
Even though, we are moving with a new website, with an upgraded backend system along with the new look and feel, we are going to make a switch over to bring the stage environment into live and get the current live off line. The website will still remain the same so as a visitor to the website, you will still keep visiting d6tm.org
If you interested to find out how the website looks, how to navigate around the website; we will be setting up some office hours where you could interact with the folks involved in this project and to see how to navigate around in the new website.
There is a lot of information we have on our current website and hence is a challenge to ensure that we will have all the information pulled over right away. We will try to prioritize the information we pull over so we have fresh information on the new website.
We plan to archive the information we have from the current website just incase there are things we may want to refer back to. If there is anything you see for which you have a strong opinion on, we will have a suggestion box through which you could let us know how we could improve using the evaluation technique we have learned in our Toastmasters projects. 🙂 We will address things as they come and practice adapting as well.
This is an opportunity for anyone of our members to step in and help. If you are interested in being a part of this effort. Feel free to apply online through our help wanted page.
We look forward to your support in Working Together – Achieving Excellence!
